A Christian/Catholic Litany Prayer for the Type A Bride During Wedding Planning

I created this prayer after almost a decade of watching my beautiful, intentional type A brides navigate the world of wedding planning!

The devil has a particular way that he wants to relentlessly attack the feminine heart, especially one that is deeply following the Lord, and ESPECIALLY a woman who is entering into her vocation!!

This litany is an opportunity to call out the ways that we fall into the enemy’s traps, and asking the Lots to deliver us from them and announce the truths of his heart. Take a minute and pray with me.

I always recommend starting with the Suscipe, from St. Ignatius of Layola.

Suscipe

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,

my memory, my understanding,

and my entire will,

All I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.

To you, Lord, I return it.

Everything is yours; do with it what you will.

Give me only your love and your grace,

that is enough for me.

Litany for the Type A Bride during wedding planning:

Lord have your way with me, for I long to be a saint far more than any other desire on earth. Help my unwant.

From the need to “fix everything”,

~respond to all, Deliver me, sweet Jesus.

From talking over and interrupting people,

From impulsive impatience,

From ruthless hurry at the cost of relationship,

From resentment and anger toward my fiancé,

From doomscrolling and endless distractions,

From prideful boasting and exaggeration,

From the belief that everything falls on me,

From the grip of harsh judgement and perfect expectation for myself and others,

From anxiety about the future and my vocation,

From grasping for attention from family and friends,

From the lie and weight that I have to please everyone,

From the lie that no one will take care of me and I will have to take care of everything myself,

From rumination and fantasy about my life and my future,

That you are a good Lover and always know and take care of me,

~respond all with Jesus, I trust in you.

That you know my desires and always come through for me,

That you will never give me more than I can handle, leaning on you,

That humility, obedience, and docility will bring more souls to Heaven than my own pride and control ever will,

That your sacramental grace will carry us throughout this vocation, even when we fall short,

That I am exactly where and when you desire for me to be at this moment,

That you are ever present, sustaining me,

That you are the fulfillment of all of my desires,

That my life will partake in the grandest adventure when you are in the middle of it,

That the expectations I hold for myself are not from you and that You love me deeply and fully despite them,

Jesus, carry me up the endless stairs of perfection, for you know I am not strong enough to climb them myself. Amen.
